Dr. lauren Chavis

Licensed Clinical Psychologist

Dr. Chavis has been practicing for over a decade and she has a range of experiences working with clients from preschool age to elders, with a particular focus with adolescents and adults. Dr. Chavis has provided treatment to individuals, families and groups in outpatient settings, intensive outpatient programs, residential treatment programs, and inpatient hospital settings. She has worked with clients struggling with depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation, trauma, psychosis, family systems problems, life transitions, postpartum depression, and borderline personality disorder. In addition, she has years of experience working with clients struggling with alcohol and drug abuse.

Dr. Chavis completed her undergraduate degree at UC Santa Cruz (Go Banana Slugs!), where she was a member of the women’s soccer team. Her educational pursuits then took her to Los Angeles where she attended Pepperdine University for her master’s degree and worked with children on the autism spectrum (including developmental delays). Through this experience she was trained in Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) and provided services in schools and home-based care.

Dr. Chavis chose to attend William James College (formerly Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology) nearby Boston, MA, for her doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology.  It was important for Dr. Chavis to have diverse training experiences and continue her education in an academically-focused city such as Boston. Dr. Chavis completed externships and internships in community mental health, college counseling, and substance abuse residential and intensive outpatient programs (IOP). Throughout her schooling, Dr. Chavis worked as project manager and counselor for a mental health resource and referral helpline connecting individuals and families to mental health services all over Massachusetts.

Dr. Chavis’ final internship led her to the midwest where she worked in one of the most underserved areas of Northwest Indiana (commuting from Chicago). She was able to hone her psychological assessment skills as well as gain valuable experience in rotations such as IOP substance abuse and inpatient hospitalizations.

Dr. Chavis is grateful that her educational and clinical training experiences have taken her to Santa Cruz, Los Angeles, Boston, the Bay Area, and Boise prior to settling in the bay area. She is grateful for the opportunities to have lived in some of the most diverse cities in the country.
