What to Expect

  • Schedule an initial phone consultation with Dr. Chavis.

  • Following the phone consultation, Dr. Chavis will meet with the you to gain information on you or your child’s background and history and discuss current concerns. This can be completed in person or video.

  • Next, the testing sessions will be scheduled. There will be between one and three testing sessions, lasting two to four hours at a time. Testing session length will depend on tests administered and level of fatigue the client is experiencing.

  • After all tests are administered, Dr. Chavis will score and interpret the data, which will be compiled into a comprehensive report that includes the findings and recommendations.

Comprehensive ADHD and Learning Disorder Assessment

We include a series of standardized tests designed to assess key cognitive, academic, and psychological functions. The tests measure intelligence and cognitive processing abilities, along with essential academic skills like reading, writing, and math, to gain a comprehensive understanding of an individual’s strengths and challenges.

Comprehensive Psychological Assessment

With comprehensive evaluations we can provide a formal diagnosis for various anxiety disorders, mood disorders, and assess how mood changes impact daily life.

We also conduct tests to evaluate cognitive functions like memory, attention, and executive functioning, which can be affected by mood and anxiety disorders.

Through the psychological assessments, we ensure accurate diagnosis and differentiation from other conditions, allowing us to create personalized treatment plans that effectively address each individual’s unique needs.

Brief ADHD Assessment

A Brief ADHD Assessment Battery provides a clear and accurate diagnosis, helping to create personalized treatment plans. It also supports early identification and intervention, ensuring individuals get the necessary accommodations and resources. Additionally, it helps families and caregivers better understand ADHD and tracks progress over time.

Gifted Student Evaluations

Intelligence testing is often required for gifted children to determine eligibility for specialized programs or private schools. In some cases, more in-depth assessments may be needed to identify emotional or learning disabilities and support the IEP process.

Our evaluations provide a clear and accurate understanding of your child’s gifted abilities, helping to confirm their eligibility for competitive programs. They offer insight into cognitive strengths, intellectual potential, and areas of exceptional talent, ensuring your child receives the right opportunities and support.

Standardized Testing Accommodations

When the main goal of our evaluation is to determine whether a student or adult has a condition that qualifies them for accommodations during standardized testing. This may include learning disabilities, ADHD, anxiety disorders, or other physical or psychological conditions. These accommodations are designed to create a fair testing environment, ensuring that every individual has an equal opportunity to perform at their best.

Possible accommodations include:

  • Extra time for those with processing speed challenges or anxiety.

  • A quiet, separate testing space to reduce distractions for individuals with attention or sensory difficulties.

  • Extended or additional breaks to help manage fatigue, anxiety, or medical needs.

  • Assistive tools such as screen readers, large print materials, or speech-to-text software for individuals with visual or other disabilities.

  • Alternative test formats like Braille or audio versions to ensure accessibility based on individual needs.

Our assessments provide the necessary documentation to support requests for these accommodations, helping individuals access the tools they need for a fair testing experience.

Assessment Cost

The cost of the assessment will be determined after the free phone consultation when Dr. Chavis creates an individualized plan depending on the type of testing requested and needed. Dr. Chavis offers flexibility in terms of type of testing and what’s included to meet your needs and budget.

Payment Options:

  • Dr. Chavis does not bill insurance for psychological testing for the following reasons:

    • To avoid unnecessary diagnoses: Insurance requires that that a diagnosis is submitted with a claim, regardless of whether or not a diagnosis has been determined.

    • To protect your privacy and confidentiality: Insurance may request private information and paying privately ensures that all of your PHI is confidential and protected, including your report.

    • To avoid unnecessary delays: There can often be a delay in obtaining pre-authorization for services and insurance provider may deem certain types of test not medically necessary, refusing to pay for it.

  • All fees will be discussed after the phone consultation. You have the option to pay half of the full testing fee on the day of the interview and second half on the day of the feedback session.

  • All major credit cards and FSA/HSA cards are accepted.
